S1 from Smacircle: The E-Bike That Fits In Your Backpack

Urban commuters have been enjoying e-bikes for a while but now an exciting new e-bike named the S1 has been launched on Indiegogo by Smacircle. This innovative road-legal vehicle has been touted as the world’s most compact and portable e-bike. It will fit in your backpack and folds in only five steps to 19-inches.

This is a bike that appeals to a particular type of consumer. It has been designed with commuters in mind or those who use their bikes to nip around towns and cities. It features powerful front and side lights to ensure high visibility to other vehicles and pedestrians. It also has electric brakes, so with the touch of a button you will safely and promptly stop.

That doesn’t mean it’s any less durable than a regular bike though. The S1 is made of tough, high-quality carbon fibre and comes with a rechargeable Samsung battery. A single charge can be used for up a journey of up to 12 miles and the battery will take around 2.5 hours to charge in a domestic power socket.

The bike weighs in at 15.4lbs (7kgs), can carry weight of up to 220lbs. The 240W motor propels you to speeds of up to 12mph without the need to pedal. Using an app, you can lock and unlock the bike so security need not be an issue. The app is also used to monitor battery usage, adjust the intensity of the lights, and monitor and adjust speed. There’s even an integrated USB charger to charge your other devices and the handlebars are designed to hold a smartphone so you can charge your phone on the go.

The crowdfunding campaign launched on Indiegogo on 16th May with a target of $300,000 to put this e-bike into mass production after which the S1 will be available from Indiegogo InDemand with an RRP of $1,499. For more details visit here.
